The frustrating way to buy a shed is in pieces: a kit from one company, a slab from another, an installer from a third, and council paperwork from nobody. When something doesn't line up — and something always doesn't — each party points at the other two.

We supply and install sheds and carports as one contract: site works, engineered slab with hold-down bolts cast to the manufacturer's template, frame erection, sheeting, gutters, doors and the development approval that SA requires for most structures of this size.

Steel structures, done by the book

Sheds and carports in SA need development approval more often than owners expect — size, boundary setbacks and easements all trigger it. We deal with that up front, pour slabs rated for the span and the vehicle, and stand structures engineered for wind zone rather than whatever the kit box promises.

The slab is the building's foundation and its floor in one pour: get the set-downs, falls and hold-down bolts right and the frame flies together straight. That's why we treat a shed slab with the same discipline as a house footing.

How your sheds & carports go together

Every stage, in the order it has to happen.

The order is not a preference. Each stage exists because the one after it fails without it.

  1. The pad

    A cleared, levelled pad — the footprint of what's coming.

  2. Slab

    The slab is formed and poured with hold-down bolts cast to the frame template — not drilled in later.

  3. Kit down

    The kit arrives and is laid out, checked against the packing list before a single bolt goes in.

  4. Columns

    Columns stand on the cast-in bolts, plumbed and braced.

  5. Roof frame

    Rafters, purlins and bracing complete the skeleton.

  6. Sheeting

    Colorbond walls and roof sheets are fixed with the correct screws at the correct centres.

  7. Fit-off

    Roller doors, PA door and guttering are fitted; downpipes connect to stormwater.

  8. Complete

    A finished, compliant structure — engineered, approved, and ready to use.

Do sheds and carports need council approval in SA?

Most do. In South Australia, a shed or carport generally needs development approval unless it qualifies as exempt development — broadly under 15 m², under 2.5 m high and behind the building line, with tighter rules in heritage and character zones. Almost every double garage, large workshop or street-facing carport requires approval, and we prepare and lodge it as part of the contract.

How much does a shed cost supplied and installed in Adelaide?

Cost depends on size, span and height — a single garage-size shed (6×3 m), a double garage (6×6 m) or a larger workshop — supplied, slabbed and installed. Kit-only prices you see advertised typically exclude the slab, installation and approval — usually half the real cost. Request a quote for your site.

Why does the slab matter so much?

The slab is the shed's foundation and its anchor against wind uplift. Bolts must be cast in at the manufacturer's exact template positions, edge thickenings sized to the columns' loads, and the slab poured square and level — frames stood on out-of-position drilled anchors are the single most common kit-shed defect we're asked to rescue.
